NZ's very own sports car ready to release its brakes This is just the beginning for Hypercars NZ. If you would like to be an investor or corporate partner by having your brand represented alongside this exciting project, please contact Neil on 021 507 032 or contact us by email A truly exceptional and exotic piece of kiwi-engineered craftsmanship, the DSN 390 is the brain child of local engineer Neil Gray who needed a project to fill the empty tin shed on his lifestyle block in North Waikato. "I have always raced motorcycles, sports car racing is the next best thing so I decided to build one from scratch." Gray says. The car weighs 680kg and is geared to reach 260km per hour with a power of 390hp at 10,500rpm Its selling point is that almost every part of it has been designed and built in New Zealand, almost five years in the making. "In the spirit of legends well known motorbike builder John Britton and World's Fastest Indian Burt Monroe this project has been fully funded from our own savings.. We just had a couple of friends that believe in the concept and ourselves, giving myself and Georgina the perseverance and drive to get the project finished." Neil says. The name 'DSN' stands for 'Don't Stop Now' and was created after times of frustration during the build stages. The 390 is the horse power. On a number of occasions I would walk to the shed shaking my head in frustration. Then I would think; we have come so far, "Don't Stop Now"! Neil says it has been the people around him who believe in him that have kept him going. DSN 390''s Synergy 2400 engine was designed and developed by Simon Longdill who is a close friend of the Gray's and most of the prototype custom engine components were manufactured by Neil... It is a huge drawing point to the DSN 390 due to its light weight and power capability. Neil began by creating the body work and then started working on the chassis and the engine. Although unorthodox, he says in hindsight it was a great idea. "Having the aesthetic body of the car always there kept me motivated to carry on with the rest of the project." |
